Beat the Winter Blues

During the dark winter months, the shorter days and freezing temperatures may leave you (and your staff!) feeling a little blue, which may impact on your mood, productivity, and your business.

Follow our top tips to help boost morale in your shop and keep your customers rolling in this January!

Team Building

Why not arrange a team building activity for your staff? What better way to get everyone together and boost team spirit than a staff quiz, a problem solving afternoon or signing up to a charity race? You could even invite your customers to take part bringing the community together, whilst raising money for a good cause. You never know, it might even bring some welcome press attention to your business.

Start a new project

The next big business idea could come from your staff. A brain storming afternoon could get everyone involved and generate some new ideas to propel your business objectives.

It could be a project to generate more shares on your Facebook page. For example, what about introducing a “face-in-the-hole” competition where customers could pose for a photo, before sharing the image online with a link to your page? Your staff can also get creative by painting the board themselves.

Whatever new project you opt for, it will be something new and exciting to focus on, and your staff is much more likely to feel passionate about it, if one of their ideas is implemented.

Let there be light

Making sure your shop is well lit so it can help disguise the dark gloomy weather outdoors. A bright working environment may increase productivity, so make sure the blinds are up and you are letting in as much natural light as possible, and your ceiling lights are powerful enough to illuminate the whole shop.

You could also brighten up your shop this festive season with some Christmas decorations, to get your staff in the celebratory mood. But make sure these don’t cause a slip or trip hazard for your staff or customers, as an insurance claim is the last thing you need to end your year.
