Derby Hair and Beauty Student has been Crowned the UK’s Best Up and Coming Stylist

DERBY HAIR AND BEAUTY STUDENT HAS BEEN CROWNED THE UK’S BEST UP AND COMING STYLIST

Lucy Ashworth, from Derby, has beaten nearly 100 hopefuls to be crowned the UK’s next best up and coming hair and beauty stylist.

Our SMEi “Create the Look” competition called on all budding hair and beauty stylists to submit images of their creations, to find the nation’s new emerging talent.

Currently studying her second year of Beauty Therapy at Loughborough College, Lucy (18) has aspirations of practising her trade on cruise liners, to see the world whilst pursuing her dream job.

Lucy commented: “I really enjoy using make-up at college and loved the opportunity to be able to share my work with everyone through this competition. I’m so excited to have been selected as the winner, as it will really help me to pursue a career that I’m very passionate about”.

Our judges also announced two runners up in the competition. Ellie Carvell (17) is studying Hair and Media Makeup at Hugh Baird College in Liverpool, and hopes to pursue a career in producing looks for editorial and film. Evie Scrowston (17), currently studying Level 3 Hairdressing at Chamber Training in Hull, aims to work behind the scenes on catwalk events, with some of the hair and beauty industry’s biggest names.

These top three stylists will each receive a luxury goodie hamper packed full of the latest hair and beauty products and equipment.  As winner, Lucy will also be learning the tricks of the trade by spending a day with a leading stylist at an award winning Westrow salon.

The three winners were selected from a shortlist of the most creative and inspiring hair and beauty entries, displayed in a gallery at www.smeinsurance.com/competitions/create-the-lookhe top 10 finalists were as follows, in no particular order:

9.    Katie Hawkins - Cambridge
10.   Kamila Stolarczyk - Wakefield

Jonathan Webber, Commercial Director of SME Insurance, stated: “We were blown away by the quality of entries received, making judging a difficult task. Each of the finalists was exceptional and Lucy, Ellie, and Evie are very talented and worthy winners.”
