Are you a small business looking to boost your online presence, but have no idea where to start? Do you know that Google can help give you the power to drive awareness of your product or service, but need some help on where to start?

We understand that whilst not everyone can be a Google expert, that shouldn’t mean that you can’t feel the benefit of being visible in search results; which is why we have put together this checklist to allow businesses both big and small to help get themselves found on Google.

Create a Google+ Page via Google My Business – www.google.com/business

One of the first places to start is by setting your business up with a Google+ page. This “social media with a difference” site is the place for businesses to showcase their news, events, and upcoming promotions or sales.

One of the best ways to create your Google+ page is by using google.com/business where you will find that, along with other useful tools, you can easily set up your Google+ page.

 

Verify the Google+ Page

Once you have set up your Google+ page you will need to ensure that it is verified to show that you are the official creator. In doing this, your authenticity is boosted within the Google world, improving your search rankings and perhaps even getting you to the top of the results. It is straightforward to do and requires you to request a postcard, which you will receive in the post, containing a PIN that you then enter online.

 

Complete Business Profile Information in Google My Business

Make sure you fill out all of your business information in Google My Business, including adding different offices or stores if you have them. This will make sure your website is found for local based searches that include cities or regions. Think about what type of questions your customers are likely to ask – including where you are, your contact information, opening hours and of course a small introduction to your business, and what it can do for them.

 

Upload Photos of your Business

Having the right text and information on your profile is of course important to keep your customers up to date, but what about a visual aid to help them. Adding photos of your business visually demonstrates what you can do and shows just how great you really are!

Encourage Customers to Review Your Business

If you are looking to attract new customers or clients to your business then you should never underestimate the power of word of mouth. Many people check online reviews of businesses before they buy their service or product, so encouraging your customers to leave reviews can help promote your business and build trust in what you can do for them. Best of all, it is can be considered free advertising.

Register your website with Google Search Console

Google Search Console (previously Webmaster tools) is a free tool that allows you to monitor and maintain your site’s presence in Google Search results. It will enable you to boost the number of visitors to your site by identifying any potential search errors and providing recommendations on how to fix them. This will make sure you are maximising the number of hits your site achieves.

 

Engage at Least Twice a Week Through Posts

It is one thing to post updates and news on Social Media but it is another to then follow up by communicating with your customer base. Make an effort, at least twice a week, to reply to comments on social media, respond to reviews and communicate with your followers. They will appreciate the acknowledgement and it may help to show you in a great light!
