About Great Lakes
Established in 1987 as part of the Munich Re group, Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK)
PLC is based in London and is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services
Authority, the UK regulator. We are an integral part of Munich Re, often used as
a Special Purpose Vehicle and supporting a gross written premium income of roughly
£1.5bn in 2009.
We are a specialist provider of insurance services and act as the preferred facilitator
of insurance business for the group Munich Re outside the US and Canada. We are
authorised to transact all classes of Insurance and Reinsurance (except Life) in
the UK and throughout the European Union via the Freedom Of Services Directive.
Great Lakes is the primary insurance provider out of reinsurance and adds value
to the group Munich Re, developing standardised and tailor-made solutions of any
size and complexity together with business units and clients. We deliver these solutions
in a sound and regulatory-compliant manner, protecting the interests of the Munich
Re Group. Great Lakes has the operational ability to provide the most efficient
and flexible administration with high quality.
